First of all, how crazy is that?! “I’m posting on Lysa TerKeurst’s blog today,” is not something I ever imagined myself saying.

A Little Background

Lysa TerKeurstLysa is a New York Times bestselling author and speaker who “helps everyday women live an adventure of faith through following Jesus Christ.” As president of Proverbs 31 Ministries, Lysa’s free daily devotional, books, and personal story have greatly impacted my life. I’ve attended the She Speaks Conference hosted by Lysa and the Proverbs 31 Team for the past five years. I’m a slow learner… and they continually add new speakers and subjects. I’ve made some of my best friends at this conference, and God stretches my faith and my ministry each year. If you’re considering going, I’d love to talk and pray about it with you!

Last year, they announced the She Speaks Intensive – and I drooled. This conference was shorter yet deeper. Oh, how I wanted to go! But, oh it was expensive. But, oh I had already been to a conference this year. But, oh I wasn’t worthy. But, oh I fooled around so long that it sold out. Perfect! Now I could get on the waiting list, with little hope of getting in.

Imagine my dismay when a spot opened up for me! I was torn, but my husband wasn’t – “Go!” he said. “I support you 150%.” What a gift!

So I went, and – oooh boy! – was God good to me! I met Cindy Bultema, roomie of my dreams and friend of my heart. We learned so much about ministry, marketing and message. And, writing these “highlighted benefit statements” about The Neighborhood Cafe won me a guest post on Lysa’s blog:

  • Discover natural ways to get to know your neighbors without being weird
  • Overcome fears about sharing your faith and find fulfillment in obeying Christ’s #2 command
  • Maximize your time by offering simple hospitality—not extravagant entertaining—to many neighbors at once
  • Make new friends with women who were once strangers as you form authentic relationships
  • Create a sanctuary on your streets as united neighbors form a safe, secure community to raise your families

I first heard the words “neighborhood Bible study” at She Speaks, and The Neighborhood Cafe has been immeasurably blessed by Lysa’s ministry. I am forever grateful and indebted to women like her, who freely and graciously share godly wisdom.

Afraid to Walk Across the Street

Please take a minute to read my post on Lysa’s blog, where I share my own fears about obeying God’s big and wild command to walk across the street – way outside my comfort zone! And if you leave a comment on Lysa’s website, and you’ll be entered to win one of three Neighborhood Cafe Kits we’re giving away this week. May God calm both our hearts as we follow Him!
